Final Review of Passionate Housewives Desperate for God

Okay ladies, this book took me a bit longer than I thought it would (Michael getting sick, and so much other stuff came up), but it was so worth it!

I am talking about the book Passionate Housewives Desperate for God by Jennie Chancey and Stacy McDonald. This book was the most refreshing and educational book I have read in my entire life.

In the past year my husband and I decided that it would be best for me to not work outside of the home anymore. I was becoming so stressed out and it was just not worth it anymore. We had already planned for me to stop working once we had children, but we just thought that it would be easier if I started earlier.

So I took on a babysitting job, that way I could help financial still, and started working in the home. Now, my mother worked outside of the home my entire life, so even though I decided that I wanted to be a housewife, I didn't really know what that meant in everyday life.

So, in the past year I have been trying to learn what exactly it means to be a Godly housewife. I have started reading blogs addressing the topic and books the same. That is what brought me to this book, and I am so thankful for that!

This did not show me how Jennie and Stacy view the role of housewife, it showed me how God views the role of housewife. Everything in this book is backed up with Biblical reference! That is what was most amazing about this book! It teaches how God sees a housewife, which is very important to me.

Many times in the past year I have felt overwhelmed by the responsibility and overcome with fear about being a mother in today's world. But this book has showed me so much practical advice and sound Biblical teaching that I have new found joy and comfort in my current role and future role!

This book also showed me the role a Christian home and family has in our culture. The Christian family and home are one of the strongest tools to evangelize to the lost people in your life. When a weary wife and friend sees your joy and comfort in your role that God destined for you, they will see God's love.

I read this book from the library, but I am hoping to buy my own copy, that way I can read it often, it is just that good! It is so easy to lose perspective in the world that we live in and this book helped me to readjust my focus back to Jesus!

I just want to thank Jennie and Stacy for this book and what God is doing through them! I want to end with passage found on the back of the book:

Do you wrestle with cultural messages that demean the homemaker's calling and exalt instead the emotionally androgynous powerwoman-the wife whose worth is measured only by the degree of her ambition, the shape of her body, or her moneymaking skills? Such is the image of the "desperate housewife" that the modern media, culture, and feminism are promoting with great energy.

In a delightfully honest way, this book addresses these issues head-on and provides fresh vision for the hopeful homemaker. Hear a former "Christian" feminist share how she went from a diehard homemaker-in-training to a dedicated career woman and then back again-after God gripped her heart. See the hollow counterfiet of whitewashed feminism and "meology" destroyed. And consider the beautiful picture painted in Scripture of the truly fulfilled homemaker who glories in her hopeful calling God created for her.

Pull up a chair, dust off the cookie crumbs, and join Jennie Chancey and Stacy McDonald as they lay aside stereotypes like the "Stepford wife" and dispel such myths as the 1950s "perfect homemaker." Discover what it means to be a passionate housewife "desperate" for God alone!
